I have the 7’9” 3wt. I’d say it’s more of a medium action at this weight…..which is exactly what I prefer in a small stream rod. It has enough power for a roll cast in tight quarters, while also having enough feel with a traditional cast. Ultra small dries, dry-dropper combos and even some small jig streamers in deeper pools….rod had no issues.
*This rod comes in a nice compact tube, sized just for this small rod. No oversized clunky tube where the rod bounces around inside! Much appreciated when strapped to a pack and hiking to a remote stream.
The rod casts well and is a true medium fast action. I’m using the Orvis Superfine fly line with this rod and it casts and loads well at close to medium distances which is great for small stream fishing. The cork is pretty good quality. The only issue I have is that the thread work on the rods is not very well done, specifically the green thread bands throughout the rod. They have some gaps and aren’t straight. Kinda ruins the look of the rod. Superficial, however at the $295 price point I think some other rods on the market offer a better fit and finish with similar design characteristics.
